Equal Pros/Cons...but worth it

I already had a doorbell cam in front of my house, but wanted something as a back up. Out of the box, it took literally 5 minutes to set up & connect to Wifi. It is a bit tricky, but read the onscreen carefully, and it is quick and simple.Let's start with PROS.-very quick/simple set up-micro SD card option (you need to buy)-Clear day photos-HD or SD option-Privacy On/Off function (if you want to turn off without unplugging camera)-Talk - is clear, not muffled unless right in front of it (was testing it)-Alarm - cool option, but be prepared to jump. Cross between fog horn/Purge signal-Status LED light can be turned off, so depending where you put it, no one can see the light-Onscreen display. - can have the "time", "logo", "live (shows it's recording)-things stored in Memory can be easily shared-zoom in works well (loses quality)-"wide view" - see pics in front living room window-no glare through a window - see photos. Make sure to clean your window first.-easy to install app/sign up accountCONS-the "cool" features are not free.-AI Detection, Rich Notification, Privacy Zones, Motion Tracking & cloud storage require subscription-Prices for subscription (Cdn- $43.99/year - $4.39/month)-cannot change the motion sensitivity (EVERYTHING is picked up, but that could be a good thing)-NO instructions. Two "booklets" come with it, but neither tell you what to do with settings on the app.-In the "Memory", only the screen shots or videos you manually took show up there. The "alerts" do not. You have to find those in Playback mode and basically scroll through to find them-figuring out how to switch from "day", "night" "auto' required googling to figure out how to turn off night mode, so glare in window was off.-no easy way to "mute" audio. If you have it inside, it literally picks up every single sound (tv, pets, people)Overall, I have to say this is a great camera for what I need it for. It works great, the motion pickup is amazing, and you get the notification quickly. It is on Wifi, so expect a tiny bit of delay, but since this is a backup camera, I'm not concerned.Definitely for the price, is worth it.

Great camera, no membership required

The photo you see is from the Tapo app, taken at night, during a fairly heavy snowstorm in Quebec Canada ey! The camera is setup in the bedroom, so picture is seen through a window, not bad ey! I also own an Ezviz indoor camera(CN6060 I believe) setup through a window also, but the light on the camera reflects in the window so I can't see anything at night.Tapo says night vision extends to 30 ft, but as you can see, houses on the other side of the street are at least 75 feet away and you can still see them, although I am sure streetlights help a lot. Night detection is 30 feet, maybe more. I set up the camera to detect persons only, and it works fine as long as persons step on my property. It does detect some persons on the street, if they walk on my side of the street.Audio is decent too, have not really used it, but did hear my wife that was standing at least 15 feet away from the camera. She made me turn audio off, camera is in the bedroom after all! :- ISetup is very easy, done in 10-15 minutes on both iPad and iPhone. This thing is so light, I taped it to the top of the window, upside down, adjusted the angle, reversed the picture in the app and I was done. You can view the camera feed on a computer through VLC media player (VideoLan, it's free to download). You need to setup a separate, free Tapo account account for this, I have read somewhere in the Tapo help that you can do everything with one account, but it did not work for me. Doc should be made clearer about this. After 3 days, the feed does not show on VLC anymore (still works fine on iPhone and iPad), but I will reboot eventually and it will probably work again. I need to input username and password in VLC everytime I want to see the feed, maybe I will dive into the VLC help and automate this.I have bought a micro SD card (128Gb max for this model) and will install it soon. Doc says that if you put in a card, the feed to external device (VLC in this case) will not work. I hope this is not the case, will see.Best part is that no membership is required. You get a 30-day free trial, but external feed will not work with membership or free trial, so I cancelled it before trying it out, so I can`t comment on membership. There is a 2K and maybe even 4K model of this camera, but since I own over 20 smart devices, my Wifi is not as fast as it used to be, Full HD is enough for now. This is a great camera, even more so if you're new to smart devices. I will probably buy a few more soon, especially if it stays or goes on sale again. ''Alexa, show me camera two''!Update Jan 23rd: Viewing the camera stream through VLC Media player stopped working after 2-3 days, VLC cannot connect to the camera. I setup Agent DVR free software instead and it works OK, but the picture is a bit grainy, but it does record detected persons automatically.Update Jan 28 2024: I have seen a review that says you have to pay the subscription fee for motion detection to work, this is not true. Motion detection (I set it to person detection only) works fine, I get a notification on my phone (see photo in french cause my iPhone is set to french) when a person is detected.

They work great

I couldnt beat the price at $25/camera.I ordered three to replace older Yi cameras which became a PITA because they continually pestered me with adds in the app wanting me to sign up to their cloud service.Im super happy with the new cameras. Installation and connection was a breeze and the picture is much better than the Yi units. I can select the ones that change with home and away which is a real bonus. Garage/shop stays active all the time and the two indoors change between home and away modes as needed. I need to get the micro-SD cards for local storage and I am having trouble getting them integrated with Google home. (This seems to be a fight with any 3rd party device)

Why is this so inexpensive?

For the price, I was really expecting this camera to be a letdown. I didn't really know much about Tapo. The price was right so I went with it, simple as that. Holy heck, was I wrong. In fact, I came back and bought a second one!Aside from the fact that this is a truly smart camera, which utilizes WiFi and can interface with other smart-home devices like Alexa, it's also got amazing video quality and an automatic night-vision mode. The phone app, which I highly recommend, is capable of receiving 1080p live video, sending you notices when movement/persons are detected, and can be used to review and download recorded clips from the camera. The camera itself saves to a micro-SD card, so it's storage is only limited to the size of the memory card you give it. You can set the camera to do constant recording or just record when movement/people are detected. Regardless what setting you use, when the memory gets full it automatically overwrites the oldest recordings, so you never have to worry about your security camera failing because it's memory got full. The only downside to this camera is it doesn't have any kind of internal power source, so if your power goes out your camera goes out as well. That said, you can easily rectify this by having the camera plugged into an uninterruptable power supply (Battery Backup) so even when the power goes out your camera keeps recording.

Excellent Cat Surveillance

I use this primarily as a camera to keep an eye on my cat when Im not home, and its been awesome. Setup was quick, the UI is easy to use, and the video quality is great for the price. The 1080p video is clear enough to see exactly what my cat is up to, and the night vision works way better than I was expecting even in very low light. Motion alerts can be a bit wonky at night when the room is larger, but during the day it works great.I really like that it supports a microSD card for local recording, so you dont need a subscription just to save clips. Ive had other cameras that didnt have this, and Ill never go back. The two way audio works well enough, but can come out as a garbled mess if youre in an area with a spotty connection. For the price, this is a solid, reliable indoor camera if you want to keep tabs on your pets or as a security cam while youre away.

pleasantly surprised at the performance and features for the price

I absolutely love Bambu printers. Even the entry-level A1, A1 Mini have excellent capabilities. If you upgrade to the P-series and up you get even better capabilities and flexibility of the enclosed printers. However, one thing that remains lagging and absolutely needs to be improved are the cameras. AFAIK, the A1, A1 mini, P1P/P1S share the same module; the P2 improves on this a little bit. You would have to go to the X1 carbon to the H-series to get better picture quality (and video feed). The attached picture was from the video feed of the C100, in total darkness. This is a $20 camera. This camera is optimized for room viewing and not close-ups, but the image quality far surpasses the built-in cameras of the printers I mentioned. I would have gladly paid an upgrade fee for a replacement Bambu OE camera. Two of my printers are in one upstairs bedroom (converted into a home office), another printer is located in a ground floor room, while a 4th printer is in the garage. Having a good view of the print in progress is a must and the "slideshow-quality" of the images taken by the OE cameras leave a lot to be desired.I tried this C100 to see what kind of improvement I could get with their cheapest model and I was in awe at the quality comparison. 720-1080p @ 15-30fps is more than adequate. You can watch the video on your phone using the Tapo app or access the network stream via RTSP. The picture showed was captured using VLC media player.Setup was simple and straightforward. Just make sure you connect to the same wireless network SSID as your phone (the printer and phone need to be in the same network group), otherwise you will be prompted every 5 minutes or so to "continue watching the stream". Once you've setup wifi-access, the app does not allow you to change the SSID. You would have to do a full reset of the camera itself to change any network configuration. Other than that, you can view all your cameras using different 3rd party methods.Power is via a small 9V DC brick with barrel connectors. The wire is sufficiently long for placing the camera in an elevated position. The camera works in both light and dark conditions and has real night vision. It also has motion detection sensors. No subscription is required. You don't need storage if you are only viewing, but may want to add 16-128GB SD card if you want to do review previous videos.

good camera, easy setup and customizing, incl mounting template

fact is HD 1080 video is 2.07 megapixels. corporations long ago stopped advertising megapixels and sold out to HD, UHD, now 4k, 8k and so on. My options, 499+tax for 5 amazon brand 2.07 megapixel cameras that upload to the cloud first and only let me record locally if I buy their usb, but 5x video+audio = tons of USB storage, or for less than 200 I bought 6 tapo c100's and A2 micro sd cards for each.hmm.... what to do what to do.I bought these c100's a year or so ago, then oct/2021 i bought more. they're good basic cameras. i use them for lots of things because of their affordability. i have one in the attic where i patched a leak from a contractors shenanigans while installing eaves trough. I have one in the garage because security camera. i have them around the house watching inside and outside. i can choose where to record sound, which ones to notify me, which ones to record on a super easy schedule setup, i can take pictures and record video from any of the cameras except a couple i didnt bother installing the sd cards in. on top of all that if i want to access them from the web i just have to add them, manually, to my tapo account. This means i know what is accessible from the web, as much as any of us can these days, and i can give it unique name and password.the downside, switching between night and day mode the cameras are loud. the burglar who breaks in and flips on the light or swings the flashlight beam around the room will immediately know there is a camera there, even if they weren't looking for the night vision led's that cannot be turned off... if you want night vision. but, you can turn night vision off. balaclava's and heck covid masks defeat all camera security systems because you have to be able to prove who it was... so if you want to play home security guard turn the night vision off on the cameras inside the house so there's no red led's or loud clicking when the camera detects ambient light changes.that downside is a how you use it, not a camera flaw, so i can live with it. i dont use them outside, I have them inside looking out and inside looking in because that's all i need. and my attic camera where i can just look to see if any new leak has sprung and when im satisfied its fixed properly, ill move the camera elsewhere. why? because they're affordable. i only paid 15bucks per megapixel vs amazon brand charging 50.HD = 2 megapixel. it's garbage. go pro's are like 5-8megapixel, lower than my kodak digital camera from 2003. keep it real when buying cameras.

good customer service

had an issue with faulty device, online tech support was very easy to get the issue resolved. Had a good experience with Glenn. He was quick to respond, helped me check the camera issue step by step, and made the replacement process easy. Really polite and helpful throughout

Insane deal

This is an amazing camera for the price. I have 4 for monitoring my home and animals while away. For comparison, 1 Google Nest camera is more expensive. It works standalone with an sd card, can connect to a DVR for local central recording, and has an optional cloud service (paid). You can't go wrong with this camera.

Great for spying on my cats!

It was pretty easy setting these up in my home just to spy on my cats while Im away just to see what they are up to. I like how you can either set it on something or mount it onto a wall. I just have them sitting on things in my house though, but it is handy that it also comes with a sticker sheet to show where to put the holes in the wallOne thing you will have to make sure of is that you have a wifi that is 2.4hgz. Which I did not have so I just had to go to my Wi-Fi place and ask them for an extra box that has that Wi-Fi amount instead of 5g that I normally run on

Good ok camera

I'm happy with this camera, set up was easy, and the lenses are large. I am annoyed at the subscription to be able to use their cloud services, but it is only 4 dollars a month, so it isn't that bad. Also, you can opt out, which isn't obligatory like other camera services. Not 5 stars because it doesn't record all movements, just random ones. Would be nice if there were a 24-48 hr recording option instead, and because the night vision doesn't work indoors.

Good little camera

Ive been really impressed with my Tapo camera. The video quality is honestly way better than I expected for the priceclear, sharp image during the day and still surprisingly detailed at night with the night vision.Setup was simple and didnt take long at all. The app is straightforward to use, and it makes checking the live feed or going back through recordings really easy. Everything feels smooth and responsive. What I like most is how reliable its been. The connection stays stable, notifications come through quickly when motion is detected, and I dont feel like Im constantly fiddling with settings just to make it work.Overall, it just does its job really well. Solid picture quality, easy control, and dependable performance. Its one of those devices that you install and then forget about because it just works.

Awesome night clarity

am beyond impressed with this 2-pack! Setup took less than 5 minutes through the Tapo app, and the video quality is razor-sharp. Human & Motion detection is fast and responsive, the night vision is crisp, and having two-way audio is a huge bonus. Having two cameras at this price point gives total peace of mind for monitoring the house. Highly recommend!

Be sure to use Static IP

Works very well but it took me a while to get it to connect to my modem, as the camera is 2.4 GHz only. But the functionality and app user interface are great. I would recommend it to anyone who needs to keep an eye on a child or an elderly parent.Update: Constantly going offline, despite a strong wifi signal. I bought 2 of these to keep an eye on my elderly father, and now one of the cameras is constantly going offline and the only way to rectify this is to physically disconnect and reconnect the camera. Very disappointed.Update 2: I changed the settings to use a Static IP address for each camera and they no longer go offline.I changed my rating to 4*.
