The starlight feature is what really sets this cam apart from others out there. It's so good, the night vision rarely turns on. My old cam I could really tell how dark it was getting just by looking at the camera, with this one its deceptive, looking on the camera it looks bright still, then open the door and shocking just how dark it is. The camera can see better in the dark with the starlight feature than I can.You'll need the app on your phone to initialize the camera, as well as changing the wifi (if used) however after that you can use ONVIF and whatever software you choose (that works with ONVIF). You can pay for an account and have your video's uploaded to the cloud, where you can access them at anytime, or use an SD card to store them on the device. You can also use 3rd party software of your choice, but some features may not be available, but in my experience most functions work just fine. However, just be prepared for large file sizes when using HD, I'm talking gigabytes per minute, but the quality is fantastic!I find the audio when watching live is...very low, wont pick up nearly as much as my old cameras did, but seems to do well when recording, so I did not think it was worth taking off a star or anything.Pan and tilt range is great, basically no dead spots, and super fast motors, so you wont lose anything you are tracking, from people to cars, it will keep up. Also has a privacy function that blocks out the camera and audio from not only the app, but from any ONVIF devices attached, so everything seems to be blocked until you change it. Have not tested if auto/programmed movements (ONVIF) work when in privacy mode, but I would assume it would not work, and you would need to take it off privacy before ONVIF auto/programmed movements

It has been 2 years now and its worked very well. Purchased an extra long ethernet cable for it thinking the wifi would be unstable from all the trees and snow in the winter(we get lots of snow). But it has been great! Internal storage features are handy and does the job without the need to subscribe to a service. Motion detection settings could use some work. Love that it offers different types of motion to be detected but its. It always accurate. For example, a mosquito with notify as a human walking by. Or when I highlight just a stairway to track movement, sometimes, it'll notify me when there's movement in the area I did not track. Overall its user friendly and works great for what it is! And I have a ring camera else where for comparison.

I have this mounted under the garage soffit in the backyard since summer 2025. So far, not a single issue at the end of 2026 (half year usage), even with relatively weak wi-fi at the edge of the property. It seems to handle the distance better than another brand's camera we have at the window of the garage (from a connectivity perspective). Most importantly, it works excellent outdoors in Canadian prairies' winter weather. It's only 2K so not the sharpest image, when compared to the 4K options, but more than enough for a clear image. Main reason I prefer Tapo over other brands is speed of accessing the stream; the app is simply faster, so I can see the feed faster.The only persistent con I have with the Tapo cameras, including this one, is that setting them up can be finnicky, where you join the device's network temporarily, as per the instructions, but inevitably most of the Tapo devices struggle with continuing past this step and I have to restart the process - at which point it gets past this setup point. An irritation, since it's happened numerous times on different cameras, but not a deal breaker. I just hope they fix the software eventually.

It works really well and pictures are very clear.

A few glitches with the cameras disconnecting from the app when I��m away and have had to replace the power supply 3 times (2 cameras). Also, one camera seems to detect ��person�� when it��s just a cat or wind blowing branches and setting off the alarm

Good cameras, very easy user interface

Excellent build quality. Worked like a charm and I don't need a subscription. Just a power source to ensure continuous recording.

UPDATE: Had this camera for just shy of a year now, and can confirm that it works in temperatures above 30 degrees, and temperatures below -30 Celcius. This was my biggest stress, so it shows the camera is even better than I expected.Bought this camera to attach to my house to watch the back garden. I'm quite set in with the Google eco-system for my smart home, but this camera ended up being well worth it for a fraction of the price.Installation is easy; drilled a few holes, mounted the camera, ran a DC extension lead to a point in my house and it booted straight up.Note for this step; if you're using an SD card, put it in before you mount the camera for easiness! The camera will give off an audible error when you turn it on, this will go when the SD card is formatted.The Tapo app is an upgraded version of the Kasa app that I've used for years. The app is really good for controlling the camera's modes and settings, and it is very consistent with sending notifications from the camera.For the camera features, tracking is very smooth, identification is accurate, and setting up zones is really easy. I want to like the line-cross detection feature, but it's prone to picking up shadows and insects, so I turned it off.The spotlight is quite useful if you're outside late at night, but you definitely don't need it for night vision.The camera's sensor is unreal at night; you can make out details without any effort at all, and it doesn't lag like some cameras do in the dark.Strongly recommend this if you want a no nonsense camera with onboard storage with a lot of cool features. Another win from TP-Link.Last note, as of writing this review, the camera preview does NOT work with Google Home, but DOES work if you view it on your TV or Nest Hub.

I would give it 5 stars except for one very annoying issue.Trying this to connect to my wifi was a very trying experience. It would not recognize my wifi connection and I was sitting right beside my router which connects to Fibreop. I turned off my 5.0g setting on my modem and just had it running on 2.4g and still my wifi was not showing during setup. Finally I hooked its cable direct to my LAN connection. Everything worked then. Then I disconnected the LAN connection and it finally automatically connected to my wifi network.After that I moved the camera outside about 150ft from my house and wifi connected perfectly.There is a learning curve with all the options available in the camera menu but once you figure out all the selections the camera works amazing. There are many videos on YouTube on proper setup which is very helpful.Color quality is amazing and night vision is actually very respectable. For the price this camera far surpasses its cost.I wanted this camera to watch the birds that come to our outdoor cement water fountain and using the feature of Line Crossing Detection the camera has I can create a target zone in the area the birds come to so it will ignore any movement outside my target area cutting down on unwanted movement and only get notifications of movement in my defined zone.Very impressed with this so far. Time will tell the rest but it seems very well designed. Just try and find a way to protect the camera from the elements. I have mine mounted under a piece of wood so it keeps the rain off it.

Thank you, TP-Link!It is refreshing to purchase an item and have it work better than advertised, but this camera is so much better than claimed I was shocked. I have 6 Eufy 2C cameras which I thought provided a good video image but were limited in having a fixed FOV there was some void coverage. My 2 Blink cams are also fixed position and again this left areas not protected so I started looking for a PTZ that would follow a person and record locally. My primary concern was nighttime videos in full color and while almost every camera on the market claim to have this capability some of those claims are vastly exaggerated.The Beenocam 4k produced an acceptable day image but the night view was at best horrible. I tried numerous setting and locations but was never able to get an identifiable image of a person walking a dog only 15 feet away from the camera. Yes, there was a dark blob for the person, but the dog looked like a dark mass that was somehow moving. After 2 weeks of trying to get it focused, I gave up and returned the product.Next the Reolink Trackmix. I really wanted this one to work so spent hours daily adjusting settings and working with their tech support. To their credit tech support stayed in daily contact but most of the suggestions were to turn off certain features or install older software updates and follow the online video solutions which did not work. The day image was superb except the tracking would work maybe 40% of the time and the sound was unintelligible. The night vision was almost as bad as the Beenocam. The nighttime black and white images looked washed out while the nighttime color left complete sections of the scene pixelated beyond recognition. After 3 frustrating weeks of many hours each day I finally admitted defeat and returned the camera.I was just about to add some more Eufy cams when it occurred to me that I had great success with the outdoor plugs from TP-Link and remembered seeing a favorable review of their C520 WS. I seldom take professional reviews seriously, preferring to believe the individual ratings, but thought I would give this product a try. I am so glad I did.This is how every security camera should work. While only a PT (no Z) the images both day and night are outstanding. The camera picks up a person, identifies them as a person with a blue header and follows them across the full range of motion that I set, roughly 210 degrees. I have turned off the night leds and set the image even at night to day mode. The image is crystal clear. The mic produces clear sound both sending and receiving. I did play a little with sensitive setting but that was only a minor hiccup. I tend to review any footage daily so only installed a 32GB card which can overwrite with new images, so I don��t see the need for anything larger. I can manually zoom if needed which is what I do with my Eufy cams so overall I would give this product a 5+ if that were possible. I will be using these cameras as replacements in the near future as they are that good. Thank you TP-Link

Been using the TP-Link Tapo 2K 4MP Pan/Tilt outdoor camera and it has been performing great. No connectivity drops, no glitches �� just reliable performance day in and day out.Picture quality is excellent. The 2K 4MP resolution makes a real difference �� details are sharp and clear, day and night. The pan and tilt range covers everything I need without any blind spots.Setup was simple and the app works smoothly. Really can��t ask for more at this price point.
